ALL YOU NEED TO REMEMBER TO GET 4 marks on the labelling Japan question
CITIES-
Tokyo - The capital.
Kobe - Where Kobe beef comes from, a little south-western of Tokyo, near Osaka.
Osaka - Near Kobe.
Sapporo - In Hokkaido.
Sendai - Where the Tsunami and Earthquake in 2011 hit mainly.
*Remember where the Japan sea and Pacific Ocean is too!
CLIMATES-
Kyushu
The climate in Kyushu is more tropical and exotic – like a South Pacific
island. The vegetation consists of bamboo and such with tropical rainforests
and animals like monkeys. There are lots of hills and the city is built around
Mount Aso, an active volcano. This also involves natural hot springs called
onsens in the relief.
People and culture are more traditional with samurais and ninjas. It is
a more rural and relaxed area and is not that well known to tourists. There is
a lot of agriculture similar to old Japan with Shinto priest and temples. Most
houses in these areas are more like rural Japan with tatami mat floors.
Hokkaido
There are four seasons – spring, summer, winter and fall. There are a
lot of coniferous trees such as pine as well as sakura (cherry blossoms) during
the seasons. Whales, bears, dear and other animals that exist in cold climate
can also be found. The relief is quite mountainous with big lakes and snow
covered mountain-tops most of the time. The people there celebrate the Sapporo
Ice Festival and participate in winter activities such as skiing or
snowboarding. The city there is more modernized and there are even things like
ice hotels included in the culture.
RISK IN JAPAN-
Japan sits on the Eurasian plate at the very borderline making it prone to natural disasters like Earthquakes and Tsunami, as well as Volcanoes which exist due to the movement of the plates longer before.
REMEMBER THIS ->
Constructive plates - move apart.
Destructive plates - collide or move closer.
If you draw this exact diagram below in your exam if it is required, you should get full marks for the question. :D
